The Australian government has announced a new visa pre-application process, known as a “ballot,” for high-demand Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa applications from India and 2 other nations. This system aims to offer a fair, simplified, and transparent selection process in regions where the demand exceeds the number of available spots.

The ballot is an electronic random selection system, and successful applicants will be invited to apply through online proces. The registration fee is set at AUD 25, and the system will be implemented during the 2024-25 program year, applicable only to first-time applicants from these countries.

Current visa holders and those who have already obtained a Work and Holiday visa can still apply for a second or third visa online. The arrangements for applicants from other participating countries will remain unchanged.

Registrations for the first ballots will open later in 2024, offering young adults from India a chance to work and travel in Australia.
