Canada is scaling back its immigration targets for the coming years, aiming to balance population growth and resource allocation. In the latest Immigration Levels Plan released on October 24, 2024, the government announced a significant decrease in permanent resident admissions.
🔹 Permanent Resident Targets
For 2025, the target is now 395,000, reduced from the previous goal of 485,000. By 2027, this number is set to fall further to 365,000.
However, economic immigration remains a priority, seeing only a 17% cut, with a target of 232,000 for 2025. Nearly 40% of these economic immigrants will be selected from temporary residents already living in Canada.
📊 This shift marks a focus on supporting the economy with skilled labor while managing the influx of newcomers sustainably.
