Alberta Introduces Changes to Immigration Expressions of Interest
As of September 30, Alberta is modifying how it issues Expressions of Interest (EOIs) under certain Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) pathways. Candidates applying to worker streams now need to submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) through the AAIP portal.
By completing the online form, candidates are placed in a Worker Stream pool for consideration. The system operates similarly to the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), with points assigned for factors such as education, work experience, language skills, and connections to Alberta. Applicants with higher scores are more likely to receive an invitation for provincial nomination.
Notably, there is no fee to submit a Worker EOI. However, candidates cannot create a new EOI if they already have an existing or draft application for either a Worker or Entrepreneur stream. Alberta will begin worker stream draws in mid to late October, so there’s no need to rush submissions.
This change follows Alberta’s efforts to manage overwhelming demand in its worker streams, including the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Rural Renewal Stream, and the Accelerated Tech Pathway. These revisions aim to address labor shortages and streamline the application process while ensuring that Alberta continues to meet its labor market priorities
